At approximately 00:15 hrs on 11/28 The Hammondsport Fire Department was alerted to a brush fire with exposures. A shed and a mobile home trailer were nearby and were under threat of catching fire. 2102 was first on scene to report that the fire had definately spread into the mobile home. 2101 and car 21 were next to arrive and set up a plan of attack. Engine 24, PT14, and Rescue 7 brought a total of 21 volunteers to the scene. Upon Car 21 arrival a request was made for the additional tanker and rescue with manpower from Wayne Fire Department. The Crew from Engine24 led by Captain Nathan Buckley stretched a 200' 2" line to the structure and prepared to make entry while the other members set up water supply operations. Captain Buckley's crew finished the stretch to the front door of the home and were met with very heavy fire conditions. They quickly advanced their line and knocked down the bulk of the fire. Wayne arrived soon after and their crews assisted Hammondsport with the final extinquishment and overhaul. All units were on scene for about 2 hours.

On Thursday afternoon at 12:23pm Wayne and Hammondsport fire Departments were toned for a structure fire at 9086 Fleet road Town of Wayne. Hammondsports 2101 was on scene at 12:30:00, advising fire control he had smoke coming from the eaves of a single story double wide. Wayne's Engine-44 was on scene moments later with a crew of 4. Hammondsports Engine-24 arrived moments later with a crew of 6. A line was pulled from E-44 and went in the front door to attack the seat of the fire in a rear bathroom. Hammondsport pulled a 2nd line and staged at the front door with a RIT team. The fire was quickly located and was knocked down in the 1st 10 minutes of action. Wayne had 3 pieces of apparatus and 15 men on scene. Hammondsport had 4 pieces and 23 firefighters on scene. Damage was limited to the rear bathroom. there was no structural damage but some smoke and very little water damage due to the quick attack. Once again because of the many hours these 2 fire departments drill and work together it was a very successful operation. 3 dogs were rescued from the home ,and there were no injuries to those involved. Hammondsport Volunteer Ambulance stood by at the scene monitoring the firefighters and did supply some Oxygen to 1 of the dogs. Steuben Car 93 was on scene as the Deputy Co-coordinator. Car-92 and Car 90 assisted with the investigation which appears accidental at this time.

On Thursday Hammondsport Firefighers were called to respond to the City of Elmira to assist with damage caused by a tornado. We responded with an Engine and Ladder truck along with 14 firefighters. After arriving at the staging area in the Weis Market parking lot we were soon given an assigment. Our job was to do a street by street assesment of damage done to property or to render assistance to any resident that may need it. Although we were not in the area most impacted by the storm we still saw many trees and downed wires. Many streets were still impassable due to trees and wires. After completeing this task we were given a 30 minute break. After our break we were given the task of evacuating the 10 story St. Joes apartment building. Since the electricity was out all residents would have to be brought down via the stairwell. Some of the residents were able to self evacuate, but many were either in wheelchairs or were going to need direct assistance down the stairs. After realizing we were going to need more manpower a call was made to staging to send 2 more units to assist us. While we were on the 6th floor we heard our help coming up the stairs. we were never so happy to see the help was our brothers to the north. It was the Penn Yan fire Dept. With the 2 departments working hand in hand we soon finished our task. At that time we were released with Elmira's heartfelt thanks and returned to Hammondsport at 12:45 am.

About every three months some local departments get together to train and compare notes on techniques and equipment. Recently the Wayne fire department hosted one of these drills at their department. The Hammondsport Fire Department and the Tyrone Fire Department got together at the Wayne Fire station to do just that. All Three Departments were given a car with a patient inside and were instructed to extricate that patient the way that their department would. Afterward The group would go to each car and the IC from that incident would explain how they handled their incident. Once everything was picked up members from all talked about some different types of equipment that they use and some ideas that they have to make what they do better.
