Hammondsport and Steuben County Sheriff Divers Pull Man From Keuka lake

Saturday, April 28, 2012 On 4/27/12 at 6:30 pm the Hammondsport Fire Department and Hammondsport Ambulance were called out to the report of  a possible drowning.  2102 and 2101 were on scene within minutes of the call and reported that there was a diver in the lake and people on shore said he had not come back up yet.  2101 called mutual aid from the Wayne Fire Department for manpower and their boats, Pulteney Fire for their boat, the Steuben County Sheriff Dive Team, and the State Police Dive Team.

Hammondsport Marine 21 was on scene within minutes and set up at the dock to get ready for dive and recovery operations while the smaller boats from Wayne used an underwater camera to try and locate the victim.

Approximately 1 hour after the initial call the victim was located in approximately 13 feet of water about 60 feet from shore. 1 Diver with the  Steuben County Sheriff Dive Team and 1 State Police diver pulled the victim from the water and place him on Marine 21 and was then transported to awaiting ambulance personnel on shore. The victim was then transported to Ira Davenport Hospital.

Hammondsport would like to thank all departments involved for a job well done.  All of the companies involved worked together in a very proficient and professional manner.
